New interview in English... Die liebe Maite Itoiz von der Band ELFENTHAL war so nett unserer Morgaine ein paar Fragen in einem schriftlichen Interview zu beantworten. Damit es noch interessanter und lustiger wird, haben wir einfach mal deutsch und englisch gemischt Emotikon smile:) Hier ist es: John war früher Mitglied der Kelly Family, Maite war schon vor Elfenthal als Opernsängerin sehr erfolgreich. Wie kam es zu der Bandgründung von Elfenthal? Though we originally came from different musical worlds, we found out that our voices hamonize in a special way, so we just took the chance and built a big show where we join Symphonic Rock, Opera, Neoclassical and fantasy music. Wie seid ihr auf euren Bandnamen gekommen? Was bedeutet er für euch? It’s was the title of a composition I did some time ago; a Neo-Renaissance piece for two lutes and flute. I found this piece a nice bridge between past and present times. As the symphonic-rock band was also a „bridge“, joinging very different audience in the theaters, joining also different styles and genres, I just took the name for it. Wie würdet ihr euren musikalischen Stil beschreiben? It’s not just one style, but to make it "short", you can call it Symphonic & Celtic Rock, Neoclassical & Fantasy music. There are clear influences of Early Music too. Was wollt ihr mit euren Texten ausdrücken? There are two waves; John’s lyrics are possitive, Maite’s lyrics take you a little bit into an apocalyptic world, but the fight for the Light is always behind. Wie viel von euch selbst als Personen steckt in euren Texten? Erkennt ihr euch in den Liedern wieder? Sure, even in the fantasy lyrics, there’s always something very personal behind. Eure Lieder erzählen von Feen, geheimen Wäldern, magischen Begegnungen und Mystik. Was inspiriert euch beim Schreiben und Komponieren? For me, the best inspiration is the search for the truth. I suspect that the Elements might really be connected with ethereal entities; that would mean that the ancient gods would be much more than simple inventions. Was hat es mit dem „Blue Elf“ auf sich? The Blue Elf is a character that plays the role of „witness“, he’s looking at the world from the other side, he looks at the humans, he observes the audience during a magical Solstice night, when the veil between the worlds gets thinner. Wie ist diese Figur entstanden? I made a drawing of it and then a costume maker from „Cirque du Soleil“ made the outfit. Welche Rolle spielt Spiritualität in eurem Leben und in eurer Musik? A big role, though always with the feet on the ground. Habt ihr Vorbilder? Wenn ja wen und warum? All those who vibrate in the truth. Even a little animal can be an example of how to be one with Nature. Maite, du bist nicht nur Mitglied bei Elfenthal, sondern auch als Produzentin und Opernsängerin tätig. Was sind deine aktuellen Projekte und welche sind in Planung? Yes, besides of composing and producing for Elfenthal, I’m working right now on an important production that will join different cultures; Diverse First Nations from the the area of Canada, the Celtic touch of the Scotish people that came later to this land, and the culture of the Basque whalers that worked there since XVI Century. Gibt es einen musikalischen Stil den du schon immer mal ausprobieren wolltest? Actually I’ve put my foot in all the music styles I like and I’ve had great fun doing it. Opera, Lied, Spanish composers (XIX Century) French composers (some of my favourites) Renaissance music, German, Italian & English Baroque, Medieval music, big Symphonic music (Verdi, Berlioz, Mahler, Brahms, Beethoven...) And from there, to the Folk of different countries, Flamenco guitar (through my father’s teachings) Classical & Spanish guitar, Symphonic-Rock, Electronic, Fantasy, Celtic-Rock... I don’t think there’s some style that I like that I didn’try. Maite, du schreibst Geschichten und arbeitest auch als Produzentin. Wie bekommst du das alles unter einen Hut? At the end all has to do with inspiration, with catching the stories or the melodies that are already floating in the universe, with fine-tunning your „antenna“ and being able to perceive what you are supposed to perceive, and being able of putting it into a „material“ media. Wird es ein Buch von dir geben? Sooner or later there will be one! Either published in paper or online, one day I will finish and publish the book I’m writting since my teens J Ihr ward im Dezember 2016 mit der Rock-Oper „Excalibur“ von Alan Simon auf Tour in Deutschland. Könnt ihr euch mit euren Rollen (Lancelot und Guinivere) identifizieren? Not really XD I could not cheat my husband the king with another guy, and I’m sure John would never betray his king dating his wife secretly. But there’s one thing: We love each other without measure, like the two characters. John ist aktuell mit dem Album „We got love“ mit der Kelly Family auf Platz 1 der deutschen Charts (Gratulation an dieser Stelle!). Wird er weiter mit Elfenthal auf der Bühne stehen oder sich in Zukunft ganz dem Kelly-Comeback widmen? Don’t worry, he has time for all. The Kelly Family takes certain dates, it’s only a matter of coordinating our agendas. And if there's some problem with that coordination, there's always a solution. Was würdet ihr tun, wenn ihr für einen Tag lang „echte“ Elfen sein dürftet? Get used to my new „fine matter“ state. That would probably take the whole day. XD Ist ein neues Elfenthal- Album in Planung? Wenn ja, wann wird es voraussichtlich erscheinen? I have a new Elfenthal album pratically done, I'm terribly sorry that I didn't take the time to finish it and release it. Like the opera world, the show business is not a very nice field to move through if you are a very sensitive person (and creative artists in general, are), so since long, I'm more comfortable doing studio work for others and productions for third parties. Of course, the new album of ELFENTHAL will be released, though I don’t know the date yet. Sind für nächstes Jahr Konzerte in Deutschland geplant? Yes, ELFENTHAL will play at „Festival Mediaval“ this year (Selb). Bläcky, the organizer, insisted and got us in there for the third time. It’s the 10th anniversary of the Festival and it will be an amazing big medieval party. It’s one of the festivals that I would attend even if I would not have to play in there. The atmosphere is great, outside, with the incredible medieval market, the games, the cozy tea jaimas, the different stages, the workshops, the music and also inside in the backstage with all the bands jamming together. Welche Eigenschaft des jeweils anderen schätzt ihr am meisten? John is an example of a human being to me: Non-judging others, neutral, trusting, stable, totally humble, peaceful, patience, loving, beautiful inside and outside. Welche nervt euch am meisten? From John? Uhm... when he throws the remains of the salad together with the dishes in the sink. XD But at the end, he washes the dishes too, so; what can I say? Was wolltet ihr euren Fans schon immer mal sagen? Thank you for your patience and for remaining there, even if I’m not taking so much time latelly for the band.
